Energy Project Directions & Deadline

Final Copy Template
-Copy and paste your revised paragraphs into the document.
-Copy and paste your works cited sources at the end of your paper.
-The font should be 12 point, Arial.
-Line spacing should be 1.5.
-Be sure to add a title as well as your name, date, and period at the top.

The final copy of your paper and your rough draft are due on Edmodo on or before Thursday, 12/20. Give your blue peer editing sheet/rubric to Ms. Paddick during class!

If these are not turned in on time, you will complete them during the make-up work session instead of attending the basketball tournament on Friday afternoon. Be sure to turn them in on time so that you can enjoy the assembly!

Extra Credit Opportunity

Students who are looking for an extra credit opportunity in English class may choose to participate in the Canonsburg Elks Essay competition. The theme of the essay should be: "The Choice 4 Me is Drug Free."

Essays may be up to 200 words in length. Click here for more info or see Ms. Paddick with any questions. Essays are due to Ms. Paddick before the winter break begins in December. Students may earn up to 5 extra credit points for participating in the essay contest.

  1. Open your Colonial Newspaper article. Go to File, Download as, Word Document.
  2. Proofread your article and fix any formatting errors that may have occurred.
  3. Check your English and Social Studies rubrics for all requirements.
  4. Print 2 copies:
  • staple 1 to the front of both rubrics (article, English rubric, Social Studies Rubric).
  • place the other copy in your Social Studies class period pile
          5. Copy the vocabulary definitions below in your packet.
         6. Complete the 2nd page titled "Vocabulary Practice" for Monday.
         7. Use the links and games below to become familiar with the new terms.

    Colonial America Newspaper

    1. Open your newspaper article. Print 1 copy following the directions given in class.
    2. Select your entire article and copy it.
    3. Open your class period's collaborative newspaper below and paste your article to the end of the document when instructed. Fix any formatting issues that may have occurred and make sure you copy and paste your graphic to the new document. Do not edit any other students' articles.

    Informative Interview Essay Project


    What better way is there to get to know your classmates than to interview them? 
    During this assignment, you will become a reporter, interview a classmate, and learn many new things about him or her.

    To complete this project, you will:
    1. Choose a classmate to interview.
    2. Ask your partner 10 questions, writing down their detailed answers to each question.
    3. Narrow your ideas: choose 3 questions/answers to use as the main ideas for the body paragraphs of your essay.
    4. Begin writing your rough draft, following the 5 paragraph essay organization style.
    5. Type your essay.
    6. Peer edit your partner’s essay.
    7. Revise, edit, and proofread your own essay.
    8. Prepare for a short presentation in which you will introduce your partner to the class by explaining the 3 main ideas in your essay.
    9. Present your partner and share the information you learned with the class!

    2. Read the opinion pieces regarding the topic: Nuclear Energy: Does It Make Sense for the Environment? You can click on the link for the pieces or read them in your book on pages 1050-1051.
    3. Click here for the interactive practice quiz when you are when you are finished reading.
    4.  Use the passages to answer each question. Be sure to hit "DONE" after you select the answer to each question, then use the arrows to move between questions.
    5. If you finish steps 1-4, you may go on Free Rice or read AR/work on a extra-credit project listed on the next post.

    Advanced English: Thursday, 2/16/2012

    Today in class, please complete both of the following activities to review and practice strategies for reading informational texts.

    1. Complete Level Up: Informational Texts. Work through both the tutorial and practice tabs.

    2. Complete the Interactive Quiz. You will read a brief article titled "Odd Couples" then answer 20 questions. The article can be found here or by clicking on the link within the quiz. When you have completed the 20 questions and clicked "Score My Test," raise your hand so that I can record your grade. This will count as a quiz score out of 20 points.

    3. If you finish both of these assignments before the end of the class period you may read your library book, take an AR quiz, or play vocabulary games on Free Rice.
