Class Update

The Hurricanes have been hard at work on their alternative energy persuasive essays over the past two weeks. Students were revising and editing each other's work in class today. Papers can be turned in tomorrow, but the final due date will be on Thursday this week.  The paper is worth 50 points!

Unsolved Mysteries Research Assignment

Essay Contest

Extra Credit Opportunity (5 points)

PSBA Essay Contest (open to students in grades 6-12)
Students are asked to complete the sentence, “My education will help me to...” in 300-400 words. Essays should depict a student's goals and aspirations, and what type of future they believe their education will bring.

 Each winner will receive $100 and will be invited to read their essay at the beginning of a general session at the 2013 PASA-PSBA School Leadership Conference Oct. 15-18, at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center. Selected essays will be printed in a book that will be distributed at conference. Click here for a complete overview of the PSBA Essay Contest. Advanced English: Lord of the Flies Artwork

 Students in Advanced English class have been reading Lord of the Flies  and meeting in literature circles to discuss each section of the novel. One of the roles students must fulfill during literature circles is that of the Artful Illustrator. Students must create an illustration depicting an important scene from the novel.

Cross-Curricular Alternative Energy Project

The Hurricanes recently completed a cross-curricular alternative energy research project. After learning about alternative sources of energy in Science class, students were assigned one form of energy to research. Students collaborated using Google Presentations to present the information they discovered to an "expert panel" during science class. They then wrote a persuasive essay in English class meant to convince their audience that their source of energy is the best option for the future.
